New Year, New Reflections

This past month has flown by so quickly! With family and friends coming to visit me on the island, holidays (like Christmas and New Year’s), and travel to far-off places, my blog posts have lagged a bit. Lots of good things have been happening, and I feel so blessed to have had these more recent experiences.

At the turn of the year, many people tend to think of New Year’s resolutions. I personally am not a fan of these, and I can’t recall the last time I made them. Instead, I like to predict what might happen over the course of the next year. Using the site FutureMe, I write myself an email with my thoughts, ideas, and projections about what may or may not happen that year. In January of 2010, I wrote myself such an email, and received it at the end of December 2010.

“As I write this email, it is 10:00pm on January 1, 2010. It’s interesting to think about what may happen in the next year. With some hope, and maybe a wishful thought or two, here’s my prediction list for 2010.”

Strangely, the majority of these things didn’t happen. Being as task-oriented as I am, this seemed surprising to me! But, on the other hand, the more abstract items on this list were in fact actualized. Most of these abstract items occurred during my time in Spain, and I will forever be grateful for having the opportunity to experience them there. Some of these goals centered around enjoying more and stressing less; doing more things that made me happy; removing negative, old energy from my life and living spaces; and being silly and laughing often.

Although I haven’t written myself a letter for 2011, I plan to do so sometime over the next few days. We shall see what the next year has in store for Miss Mary…
