New Adventures of a Married Gal
With the summer season behind us, and as we make our way into fall, I finally feel able to reflect fondly on everything that’s happened and look forward to what’s yet to come.
This past summer was full of wonderful moments, the most notable of which was Pete’s and my wedding over Labor Day weekend. We had our closest friends and immediate family join us at Skamania Lodge in Stevenson, Washington as we exchanged our nuptials. The weekend was absolutely perfect, and we couldn’t have been happier with the weekend’s festivities.
As a captain in the Army, Pete is currently stationed at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. He’s completing his Captain’s Career Course (CCC), which will end in January 2013. Since Pete had to go back to school directly after the wedding, he was unable to help me drive down to Oklahoma from Oregon. So, my mom and I took a road trip together! We crossed seven states in four days, and had a good, uneventful trip. More to come on this mini-adventure.
While Oklahoma might not be my first choice in terms of places to live, I’m actually looking forward to making the most of our time here. (At least I get to be with my sweetie!) There’s so much history on post that it’s almost like taking a step back in time when walking around the historical parts of Fort Sill. Lots of old Western movies either reference Fort Sill, or have been filmed there. (Who knew?) This area is also ideal for listening to live country music and dancing. Last weekend we were lucky enough to see Jason Boland live and do some two-stepping. It was such a fun evening; I love the energy of live music!
We anticipate finding out where we’ll be stationed next sometime in the next month or two. That’s definitely one bonus of a military life — lots of inevitable travel adventures!
