Drift Creek Falls Hike
Have you had those moments when you just feel utterly content? This weekend was full of contentedness.
After a long work week and being social for what feels like 24/7, a relaxing weekend was just what I’ve needed. Yesterday was spent traipsing through the Oregon wilderness near Lincoln City to experience Drift Creek Falls. What a great hike! It was raining for the first half of the day, and then the clouds opened up to a expose beautiful fall sky. Great company, a fun little picnic, and exercising outdoors all contributed to a fantastic day. A trip to the Rogue Brewery headquarters afterward didn’t hurt either. My favorite beer there was the Dead Guy Ale. Huh. Interesting, right?
I love finding hidden gems like this so close to home. This mini-adventure felt eerily familiar to the day Katie and I had at Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany; the landscape, weather, waterfall and creek bed, and overall great experience felt exactly the same. Having little vacations like this make me feel like I’m actually living my life, and not just existing. That distinction is super important to me, and is one of the main contributing factors of my taking the upcoming Argentina trip.
Life is so short; we should really spend it doing the things we enjoy with those who are near and dear to us. I feel so lucky to be in a place like Portland where one has so many options and choices in terms of things to do and places to visit. Regardless of your mood, there’s always something to go out and see or do. I’m going to make it a point to have more mini-adventures over the next few months; I’ll consider it practice for my South American trip. I have to get in the right mindset, right? Practice makes perfect!
