Aloha Friday Photo: Hula Dance at Ala Moana Shopping Center

In Hawaii, the last day of the work week is termed “Aloha Friday”. Although there are various meanings of the term (more on that later), this is the one we’ll focus on today:

Aloha Friday is the day you say aloha (goodbye) to the work week and aloha (hello) to time with your family…
-Beckee on Yahoo!

In honor of such a such a day, I thought it’d be fun to share some photos from around the island each Friday to give you a taste of what island life is truly like here on Oahu. This photo was taken earlier this week at Ala Moana Shopping Center, one of (if not the) largest outdoor shopping mall in the world. Every day at 1pm, the mall hosts a hula dance for all the mall’s patrons. The open air auditorium fills with Hawaiian music, the hula dancers come out to entertain shoppers with their traditional dance, and those passing by take a break from their shopping itinerary to enjoy this peek at Hawaiian culture.
